The network of the "Vlaamse overheid" is a large scale Cisco network of more than 1400 devices spread over 300 sites across Flanders. Currently the network is migrating to an MPLS secure network.
 
For the network and security team within the EDS-Telindus outsourcing organization for the Flemish government, we are currently looking for an expert network engineer.
 
He is responsible for:
  • Third line operational support for the infrastructure.
    • Steer the technical support and co-ordination for incident escalations where urgently a solution needs to be found;
    • Support and Steer preventive maintenance activities for the infrastructure;
  • Projects
    • Design (technical, logical, physical) of Cisco networks
    • Implementation of network projects and co-ordination of junior engineers and technicians
    • Follow-up technical acceptance of projects and check operational readiness
  • Change and problem management of the infrastructure
    • Preparation and support of change requests for the infrastructure.
    • Steer, support and execute root-cause analysis for problems with the infrastructure and follow-up of the running problem escalations;
  • Advice on new offer requests from the Customer.
    • Give advice to the pre-sales team on newly issued offers with regard to risk, technical solution, cost.
Profile
 
Education level & general experience
  • Technical education (at least A1) or equivalent through experience/interest. Dutch language and good knowledge of English (reading, writing and speaking), more than 7 years of network experience.
Technical knowledge
  • General knowledge of security principles and very good knowledge of networking (Cisco)  in general.  At least CCNP certification or equivalent through experience. Knowledge of Cisco loadbalancers, Cisco Pix, Checkpoint and Netscreen is an asset.

    • WAN technieken (xDSL, X.25, V.35, G.307, Ex/Tx, STMx, DSx, Frame Relay, ISDN, ATM, ...)
    • Cisco hardware (Alle routers en switches)
    • Network Address Translation
    • Access Lists (Extended / Standard)
    • SNMP Configurations
    • Project management principles
  • Experience with
    • Troubleshooting IP netwerken
    • Troubleshooting Cisco IOS
    • Networkdesign (Technical, logical, physical)
    • Several years of experience with medium to large-scale Cisco networks as a leading network engineer.
